ENGL 9036 - The Quiet Revolution: 19th-Century American Women Writers 3 cr. This course considers texts by Matilda Joslin Gage, Sarah Orne Jewett, Harriet Jacobs, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ida B. Wells and others. Students learn how these women used essays, magazine and newspaper columns, novels, short stories and slave narratives as a public forum for discussing issues such as sexism, racism, the reform of labor, marriage, property, voting and education.
