HIST 7040 - Introduction to Public History 3 cr. The course examines the central issues involved in the various fields of public history. Students learn how to apply their academic history training to a broader range of professional and educational applications - museums, historical agencies, and historic preservation organizations. Students learn about specific functional strategies employed by public historians including oral history, exhibition planning and design, and collections management as they develop an understanding of the ethical debates about collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting historical materials.
