COUN 8130 - Psychopathology I: Diagnosis and Assessment 3 cr. This course explores major categories of emotional and behavioral disturbance utilizing the DSM-5 diagnostic classification system. Case vignettes are used to provide students with practice in differential diagnosis using the DSM-5. The course reviews the following for each category of psychopathology: essential features, associated features, diagnostic criteria and multiaxial classification. Clinical interviewing and assessment is addressed, as well as legal and ethical issues related to assessment and diagnosis.
A field based experience (25 hours minimum) is required for this course. Prerequisite(s): Admission to a Counseling Program.
