PSY 8130 - Psychopathology I: Diagnosis and Assessment 3 cr. This course explores major categories of emotional and behavioral disturbance utilizing the DSM-IV diagnostic classification system. Case vignettes are used to provide students with practice in differential diagnosis using the DSM-IV. The course reviews the following for each category of psychopathology: essential features, associated features, diagnostic criteria and multiaxial classification. Clinical interviewing and assessment is addressed, as well as legal and ethical issues related to assessment and diagnosis.
A field based experience (25 hours minimum) is required for this course. Prerequisite(s): PSY 1100, PSY 2350, a course in psychology of development, and admission to the MS Counseling Program.
