COMM 4206 - Media and Society 3 cr. 3 hr. Offered every other semester.
This course provides a broader framework for understanding the elements of the media system – the industry, users, content and technology – and how they interact in a larger social context. The topics draw upon current debates about the economics of the media industry, the blurring lines between media producers and users, the importance of independent media, the politics of media representation, the push towards regulation of social media, and the future of media in the context of globalization.
