ENGL 2000 - American Literature I: Legends/Massacres and Slavery/Freedom


3 cr. 3 hr. Day course offered every Semester. Also offered evenings.

The significant texts of American literature from early Native-American oral narratives to Civil War texts in a variety of genres, including poetry, fiction, sermons, journals, letters, and other historical documents are surveyed. We examine how and why certain issues (such as American identity, Puritanism, cultural conflict, gender and racial equality) recur and evolve throughout early American literature.  Students who have declared an English Studies major may take concurrently with ENGL 1200  with department approval.
