ENGL 3870 - Feature and Magazine Writing

3 cr. 3 hr. Offered every semester.

This workshop course covers all aspects of developing, writing, and crafting articles that demonstrate effective use of story angle, genre conventions, and voice. Magazine features rely on solid but fresh research and effortless style, so the course emphasizes reading, research, and peer and self-editing. Students practice interview and research techniques and write in several major sub-genres of magazine features such as profiles, op-eds, and service pieces. The course is especially helpful to students interested in journalism, public relations, content development, or marketing. (Credit is not given for both ENGL 3870 and COMM 3870) IHIP
