ENGL 4030 - Interpreting Shakespeare’s Work 3 cr. 3 hr. Day course offered in the Fall.
This course will study selected poems and plays from Shakespeare’s canon, examining particularly his treatment of power, love, gender, and the other. We will consider: Who and what is Shakespeare? Why is Shakespeare considered the world’s greatest author? To what purposes have Shakespeare and Shakespeare’s texts been put in literary, historical, ideological, education and cultural terms? How do contemporary readings, films, and production of Shakespeare (re) present Shakespeare? AIA, IHIP, LIT, LI
