ENGL 3027 - Experimental Writing 3 cr. 3 hr. Day course offered every other year.
Not all literature is the plot-based, character-driven storytelling we know and love. This course explores techniques and genres of writing that are open to creative experimentation, play, and risk-taking. Students read literature that breaks from convention and write creative pieces that push the boundaries of storytelling. These could include cross-genre and multimedia work, anti-narrative writing, appropriated/found writing, generative literature, and constraint writing. Students’ creative works are deliberate experiments that hypothesize and reflect upon the effect of their choices as writers. AIA, PL
