IDIS 3200 - Latino/a/x Studies

3 cr. 3 hrs. Offered every other year.

This course (taught in English) surveys the interdisciplinary areas and approaches that shape Latino/a/x Studies. It introduces students to the narrative construction of the Latino experience in the United States from a contemporary and historical perspective. We’ll analyze cultural forces interrelating Latino communities with U.S. society as expressed in literary and other texts. Students will, therefore, evaluate how identity politics correlates to the complexities of literary/artistic production and analysis, Latino racial and ethnic hybridity, the history of Latinidad, diasporic/migratory processes, and the representation of Latinos in the media (digital magazines, social media, etc.). DP, AIA

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1100  or equivalent.
