COMM 4700 - Design Studio and Practice 6 cr. 6 hrs. Offered every spring semester.
This course investigates common ground between theory and practice, emphasizing life-long skills of research, ideation, and critical thinking to meet the expectations of a changing multidisciplinary and global profession. Students refine and self-assess their work to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas of design they are passionate about. Students develop a resume, assemble their portfolio, write a design statement, and develop a personalized project informed by research and theory for inclusion in their portfolio. Topics relating to design practice include client relations, budgeting, contract and brief writing, and time management. Students explore opportunities for graduate study.
