Objectives for the Program in Computer Science The Computer Science Program offers the opportunity for students to develop a unique blend of knowledge and skills in the areas of computer software and computer hardware. The program provides sufficient theoretical background for continued learning. It also provides practical skills to prepare the students for professional careers in the rapidly changing field of computer science. Students develop good communication skills and the ability for teamwork and leadership roles in their professional careers. Student Learning Outcomes - Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions
- Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solutions to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline
- Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions
Computer Science Cybersecurity Program
The explosive growth of information technology, and in particular, cloud computing, has increased the dependence of individuals and organizations on the data and information stored on network storage devices and communicated over networks. This, in turn, has led to extremely high demand for professionals in computer and cybersecurity technologies. In addition to the objectives of all the CS majors, the Cybersecurity concentration provides the unique opportunity for students in Computer Science major to develop knowledge and skills in computer and network security, data encryption and decryption, cybersecurity, and ethical hacking. This concentration prepares students for professional careers in the rapidly changing fields of information technology, networking and cybersecurity. Required General Education Courses
Core Requirements for the Major in Computer Science
Cybersecurity Concentration Requirements
NOTE: Students in the Cybersecurity concentration count the four required courses toward the five elective courses required in the core leaving only one elective required. |
