Fitchburg State University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education; ABET; the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education; the International Accreditation Council for Business Education; the Council for Standards in Human Service Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
The New England Commission of Higher Education is a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering postgraduate instruction.
Accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education assures that the institution:
- Meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process
- Maintains the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future
- Maintains its demonstrated institutional integrity

Affiliations
McKay School
The McKay School is a diverse pre-K to grade 8 innovation school that provides a safe and inclusive learning environment. While located on the university campus, McKay is part of the Fitchburg Public School District. The university uses part of the complex for university classes, and many students majoring in education perform their student-teaching at McKay.
This collaboration between k-12 and higher education facilitates our mutual desire to provide the most beneficial learning environments for our students.
Servicemembers Opportunity College
Fitchburg State University is a fully-approved Service Opportunity College member. The SOC principles and criteria subscribed to by all member institutions provide the basis for a consistent and uniform approach to meeting the educational goals and special needs of military personnel. The Registrar serves as the counselor for this important program.
