SPED 3100 - Integrated Partial Practicum (IPP) 4 cr. 4 hr. Offered every semester
This field experience begins to fulfill the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s hours required for a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities Grades PreK-8 License and for a Teacher of Elementary Students Grades 1-6 License. Teacher candidates spend half the semester, four days a week from 8:30–11:30 or the equivalent, in a fully integrated classroom, a resource room, or a self-contained classroom, and the other half of the semester in an elementary classroom where students with disabilities are fully integrated or included in the classroom. Teacher candidates design lessons that meet the learning needs of the students, and then implement and evaluate these lessons. The practicum experience begins with an observation period during which teacher candidates observe the supervising practitioner, become familiar with the students and classroom routines, and assist the supervising practitioner as needed. Then, the teacher candidates systematically assume increasing responsibility in the classroom which culminates in their design, implementation, and evaluation of lessons that address the learning needs of the students with whom the candidates work. This course is taken in conjunction with SPED 2970 , SPED 3400 , SPED 3720 , and SPED 4300 . Required for all Special Education: Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 Majors.
Prerequisite(s): Successful passage of Stage One Education Unit Review and all concentration-required MTELs.
