COMM 4300 - Critical Making

3 cr. 3 hr.

Critical making posits that playful engagements with materials are effective means to produce and acquire new knowledge. This course explores how the combination of critical thinking and hands-on making creates new opportunities for learning that exceed what is possible through either path alone. Students will use tools including, but not limited to, 3D printing, microcontrollers, and augmented reality to reconnect their lived experiences with technologies to social and conceptual critique.

No previous technical knowledge is required, but the course will involve basic programming and electronic circuitry. Tutorials and instruction are provided, and students will be expected to develop basic skills in each of these areas in order to complete the course projects. PL, AIA
