HMSV 3610 - Assessment in Human Services


3 cr. 3 hr. Offered every semester.

This core course focuses on the process of assessment in a variety of human service settings. It is designed to provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary to collect, organize, interpret, analyze, and report on information related to clients’ needs, functioning and progress; to establish and monitor service plans; to broker services; and to evaluate service provision. Examples of assessment in schools, courts, hospitals, clinics, and other human service agencies will be provided.  Students will focus on understanding and applying the assessment process through a cultural and social identity sensitive lens. Prerequisites for this class are Introduction to Human Services, Interviewing Techniques, and Lifespan Development. Intervention in HMSV should be taken following or concurrently with this course.

Prerequisite(s): HMSV 1100 : Introduction to Human Services, HMSV 2500 : Interviewing Techniques, and PSY 1200 : Lifespan Development.
