Objectives for the Program in Psychological Science

The goal of the Psychological Science Program is to educate students in the scientific study of the mind and human behavior. The program combines theoretical, methodological, and applied topics enabling students to acquire knowledge and skills that enrich their personal lives, work careers, and future academic pursuits. The Psychological Science program has particular strengths in cognitive psychology, counseling/clinical psychology, school psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology and offers specialized concentrations in Cognitive Science and Applied Psychology.

Bachelor of Art students are required to have foreign language proficiency at the intermediate level.

Cognitive Science Concentration

The Cognitive Science concentration is designed for students who have an interest in studying the complex nature of human cognition. The study of cognition requires students to understand how information is taken in thought sense organs, how neural signals are created, how the brain processes neural signals, and how the neural correlates of brain functioning are related to cognitive processes such as working memory, long term memory, language processes, motor function, etc.  Students who complete the Cognitive Science concentration will develop specific research skills and content knowledge that will help them gain entry-level employment as research technicians and/or admission to graduate programs in Cognitive Science.
