The human services minor offers students the opportunity to learn evidence-based approaches and theoretical frameworks for effective work across lines of diversity, in order to become agents of change and address unmet human needs. Students in the human services minor study and practice strategies for problem solving and empowerment with individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, and society as a whole, through evidence-based assessment, intervention, policy advocacy, and community organizing.To complete the human services minor, students must complete at least 18 credits of human services courses, including the following core courses (9 credits) that provide foundational introduction to the skills and knowledge base of effective human services:

Core Courses (Required): 9 credits

HMSV 1100 - Introduction to Human Services 3 cr.
HMSV 2005 - Social and Cultural Diversity in Human Services 3 cr.
HMSV 2500 - Interviewing Techniques 3 cr.
The remaining requirements for the minor may be fulfilled by students completing any 9 credits or more in human services courses, including:

HMSV 2950 - Addictive Behaviors 3 cr.

HMSV 3410 - Building Community Supports for Persons with Disabilities 3 cr.
HMSV 3500 - Abuse and Neglect within the Family 3 cr.
HMSV 3600 - Assessment and Intervention 3 cr.
HMSV 3700 - Professional Issues in Human Services 3 cr.
HMSV 3800 - Case Management 4 cr.
