The minor in Digital Media Innovation (DMI) allows students at Fitchburg State University to learn the fundamentals of emerging digital media tools and apply them to a wide variety of careers and across a large cross-section of disciplinary practices. Students are encouraged to explore innovation and creativity through digital media and examine how digital technology and computing are changing social and cultural systems in commerce, the law, the arts, and the broader human experience.
Students minoring in DMI learn about text analysis, data mining and analysis, visualization, geospatial analysis and mapping, multimedia storytelling, information design, creative coding, virtual and augmented reality, and more. In addition to these exciting new methods, students will explore the ways that technology shapes society and impacts what it means to be human. Their work will demonstrate knowledge of the changing ways we construct narratives using data and make technologies and practices that reconsider the human experience in a digital age.
