COUN 7030 - Introduction to Professional Counseling: Issues & Skills 3 cr. This course is designed to provide an overview of the counseling profession; develop basic counseling skills in the principles of therapeutic relationships; foster the initial development of a professional identity; introduce ethical practices, regulations, and laws (federal, state, and school); explore the basics of multicultural counseling (including
cultural identity and its impact on the counseling process); and examine one’s suitability for a career in counseling. Performance in this course is part of the pre-candidacy screening process for matriculation into the graduate counseling program.
This course replaces COUN 7020 Group Dynamics in the Counseling programs.
