Objectives for the Program in Psychological Science

The goal of the Psychological Science Program is to educate students in the scientific study of the mind and human behavior. The program combines theoretical, methodological, and applied topics enabling students to acquire knowledge and skills that enrich their personal lives, work careers, and future academic pursuits. The Psychological Science program has particular strengths in cognitive psychology, counseling/clinical psychology, school psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology and offers specialized concentrations in Cognitive Science and Applied Psychology.

Bachelor of Art students are required to have foreign language proficiency at the intermediate level.

Concentration in Applied Psychology

The Applied Psychology concentration is designed to meet the academic/professional interests of students who want to become counselors/clinicians, school psychologists, behavioral analysts, or industrial/organizational psychologists. Students will be able to develop substantial content knowledge of key concepts and theories along with knowledge of professional practice of psychologists in specific subfields of psychology. Students who complete this track will be well prepared for entry-level positions in human service agencies, teacher-aids in schools, or human resource departments in businesses. Students will also be well prepared to gain entry into graduate programs that will allow them to earn the graduate credentials necessary for professional licensure.
